The HP-32S is a very powerful calculator that
brings many
features of
the HP-15C
to the Pioneer
platform.
Among them the solver and numerical integrator. However, the
implementation
of complex numbers is not quite as seamless as in the HP-15C. It also
introduces
the concept of named variables and labels with a single letter instead
of
numbers. It uses only one prefix key and provides most functions thru
menus.
Thanks to the low-resolution graphical display that allows to show not
only
numbers but also text the menus are easy to use.
The HP-32SII is HP's last Pioneer model (assuming the HP-10BII
isn't
really a Pioneer). This one is another candidate for "best calculator
ever".
Compared to its close relative the HP-32S the main added features are
support
for fractions and equations but this comes at the price of a more
cluttered
keyboard with two prefix keys. Different from the HP-27S its menu
structure
is straight-forward and easy to use - maybe because it uses RPN and
passes
arguments on the stack. Includes a wealth of built-in functions
comparable
to the HP-15C. The sophisticated support for fractions is pretty unique
even
among other HP calculators (at least at that time). Successors to the HP-32SII were the HP-33s and HP-35s.
There was a 50th Anniversary Limited Edition version of the HP-32S similar to the HP-14B. |
